The opportunity
We’re looking for a backend developer with 3–5 years of professional experience building and maintaining production systems. You’ll take ownership of backend features and services, make sound architectural decisions, and work with the wider team to deliver secure, observable, and maintainable software. You should be comfortable balancing immediate delivery with long-term system health.
What you’ll do
- Design, build, and maintain APIs and backend services with clear contracts and reliable error handling.
- Model data, write efficient queries, and plan schema changes and migrations with data integrity in mind.
- Investigate performance bottlenecks and improve reliability through appropriate caching, background processing, and monitoring.
- Implement and review authentication, authorization, validation, and other application security controls.
- Own testing, release readiness, and production debugging for the services you contribute to.
- Review code, document technical tradeoffs, and support less experienced developers.
What you’ll bring
- 3–5 years of professional backend development experience, including ownership of production features or services.
- Strong skills in at least one backend language and framework, such as Node.js/TypeScript, Python, Java, or an equivalent stack.
- Practical experience with relational databases, API design, automated testing, and Git-based collaboration.
- An understanding of concurrency, transactions, failure handling, and secure coding practices.
- Experience diagnosing production issues using logs, metrics, and structured troubleshooting.
- The ability to communicate design decisions and work independently while collaborating with the team.
A little extra, if you have it
These are useful additions, not requirements.
- Experience with queues, caching, containers, or cloud deployments.
- Familiarity with CI/CD and infrastructure automation.
- Experience improving observability or evolving an existing service architecture.
